  Mr. Greyard was born in McDonald and graduated from Rowland High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was in the Battle of the Bulge and received two Bronze Stars. After the war ended, he graduated from the school of hospital administration at Virginia Commonwealth University and served as the first administrator of Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.
  After his father's death, he returned to McDonald to manage the family farm. He later started an accounting practice.
  He served as mayor, alderman or clerk for the town of McDonald for more than 30 years, was member of the Robeson County Agricultural and Industrial Development Commission, and was member of the advisory committee for schools in Rowland.
  Mr. Greyard's priorities were his faith, his family, service to his community and stewardship of land — followed by a respectable enthusiasm for Tar Heel basketball.
  The funeral service will be at 11a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Iona Presbyterian Church, where he served for many years as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and treasurer. Dr. John Bryan and Dr. Matt Rich will lead the service.³

  Mr. Greyard, a Washington area resident since 1984, was a native of Portsmouth, Va. He served in the Army from 1964 to 1966. Four years later, he graduated from Old Dominion University.
  He began his government career in 1970 with the General Accounting Office in Norfolk. From 1976 to 1980, he worked for the GAO in Europe. He then spent two years in Washington with the GAO. From 1982 to 1984, he worked for the Air Force Audit Agency in California.
  After settling in the Washington area, he worked for several government organizations, including the Pentagon, where he helped implement the Defense Department data administration program. He joined the Patent and Trademark Office in the 1990s.
  His hobbies included golf.
  Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Linda H., and a son, Brian S., both of Reston; two brothers, retired Army Col. Thomas E. Greyard III of Chesapeake, Va., and David M. Greyard of Woodbridge; and a grandson.²
