He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II on the Destroyer USS Twisdale, and was a member of the VFW. He was the owner and operator of the Carolina Shoe Shop for 20 years and was a cottage parent at Murdock Center. He attended South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mark Richardson. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Letha Wallace Grissom of the home; one son, Jerry Grissom of Henderson; two stepdaughters, Pasty Wortham Edwards of Kittrell and Linda Wortham Brown of Sun City, Calif; his twin brother, Robert Grissom of Henderson; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.2

- Obituary: On 13 May 2003 at Henderson, Vance Co., NC, HENDERSON -- Jessie Gupton Coghill, 91, a former resident of Route 2, Henderson, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Oxford Manor Nursing Home in Oxford. A native of Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Thomas and Prudence Edwards Gupton and the widow of Archie Chesley Coghill Sr. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Brown's Baptist Church, where she was a former church pianist.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brown's Baptist Church by the Rev. Wes Garner. Burial will follow in the Liberty Christian Church Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Clara Coghill Barnes and Joan Coghill Pool, both of Raleigh; two sons, A.C. Coghill Jr. of Henderson and Robert Thomas Coghill of Martinez, Ga; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Marion Coghill Way and Betty Coghill Cobb.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of A.C. and Margaret Coghill Jr. at 401 Coghill-Dickerson Lane.
Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons, E. Dean Cobb, Bill Bedsworth, J. Marshall Barnes III, Thomas Scott Barnes, Kevin S. Weidner, L. Greg Pool, Jeffrey Partridge, Archie C. Coghill III and Brian Thomas Coghill.
