  He was born September 2, 1918, in Durham to William L. and Mettie Laws. He attended Durham schools and graduated from Durham High School in 1936. He also attended Louisburg College and Duke University and played baseball for both schools. Colonel served in the U.S. Air Corps., in the Pacific, during World War II.
  Colonel was employed by the Graybar Corporation for 40 years, where he specialized in communications. He was also a member of the Independent Telephone Pioneers Association and was very active in his community as a volunteer for various organizations. He also served the community as a Little League softball coach for 10 years. Colonel was a lifelong member of Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served multiple terms as both a deacon and an elder.
  He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Renn Laws, and is survived by three children, Hollace L. Selph of Durham, William G. Laws and wife, Cindy, also of Durham, and Robert B. Laws and wife, Kelly, of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Chris Laws and Michael Laws of Durham and Anne McLain Laws and Walter Laws of Winston-Salem. Colonel is survived by many nieces and nephews as well.
  Colonel was one of nine children. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis and Richard Laws, and his sisters, Clara Mangum, Arlillian Jackson and Emma Thompson. He is survived by one brother, Willard Laws of Raleigh, and two sisters, Gladys Barber and Zula Raspberry, both of Durham.²

  Mrs. Paschall was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church and the Warren County Senior Citizens Club. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who also shared her love and kindness with many friends and neighbors.
  Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Seong-il Eom at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Norlina Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Drewry.
  Mrs. Paschall is survived by: Sons Dennis Paschall and wife Nancy of Norlina, and Norman Paschall and wife Scarlett of Elberton; two daughters, Frances Glover and husband J.B., of Rocky Mount, and Kathy Paschall of Norlina; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.²

  She was a retired nurse's aid at the old Scott Parker Sanitarium. She attended Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
  
  The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ernest Mason. Burial will follow in the Falkner family cemetery.
  
  Surviving are two brothers, W.J. Lester and Hubert Lester, both of Henderson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mamie Lester, Viola Harper, Mattie Mae Ayscue and Ethel Jones; and two brothers, Fur-man Lester and Eugene Lester.
  
  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home.
  
  Serving as active pallbearers will be Carl Harper, Robert Lester, Charles Whitemore, Ryan Tharrington, Russell Gupton, Charles Faulkner and Ray Patrick.
  
  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Grove Baptist Church, 834 Alert Road, Louisburg, N.C. 27549, or to the charity of your choice.
