  Rev. J.J. Renn, D.D., died in Wilson last week, where he had been sick since the meeting of the Methodist Episcopal Conference. He was first taken with a carbuncle and it was the effects of this from which he died. The body was taken to Durham and buried.
  Dr. Renn was at one time pastor of the Methodist Church in Henderso, and had many friends among our people who esteemed him highly. He wa a good preacher, a popular paster, and a genial, companionable man socially. He had a strong hold upon the people where he lived and labored.
  Dr. Renn was twice married, the first time to Miss Susan Twisdale, of Warren County, whom he wedded on Christmas day, 1865. Of this union there are five children living. His wife died in Thomasville on April 14, 1882. November 24, 1884, Dr. Renn married a second time, his second wife being Miss. Roberta L. Reavis of Vance County. She survives him, together with four children.⁴
