  Mrs. Catlette was born August 13, 1918 in Franklin County, but lived in Raleigh most of her adult life. She retired from J.C. Penney Company in 1983. She was an active member of North Street Baptist Church, and enjoyed many friends there and at the Carriage House, her former residence.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, August 13, 2002 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.
  Mrs. Catlette is survived by her daughter, Peggy C. Frady and her husband, Jim of Macon, GA; her daughter, Patricia C. Chappell and her husband, Robert of Chapel Hill, NC; four grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren.⁵

We happened to talk to Mrs. Alice Mason, who resides on Main Street. We were seeking info on the "Old Buzzard Hotel" which we found had been destroyed and site cleared. Mrs. Mason informed us that a lady had, just the week before, been to Bath to sell the property and had dropped dead on the street in front of it. She was able to find a copy of the Obituary as it appeared in the Washington, N.C. Daily News, page 2a, Sunday, October 26, 1997 as follows:
  Mrs. Elizabeth A. Jennette-- Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Bowen Jennette, 62, of the Makelyville community, Scranton, died Friday, October 24, 1997, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Monday at the Warner family cemetery, Route 2, Scranton, with David W. Mason and Phil Emmert officiating.
  Born in Beaufort County on Jan 10, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Olive Skittletharpe Bowen. She lived in Grifton during her working years while working with E.I. Dupont Co. in Kinston in Dacron research Lab. Following her retirement, she worked with Internal Revenue Service in Greenville, N.C. for several years. She moved to the Makelyville community in 1985. She continued to work as a bookeeper and tax consultant for several companies and people. She was a long time member of the Ayden Missionary Baptist Church.
  Mrs. Jennette was the most beloved wife and best friend to Charles Edison Jennette; mother to Sherian Elaine J. Swindell and her husband, Michael of Sladesville; Walter Greene Jennette and his wife Ginger, of Greenville; grandmother to Michael Shannon, Cameron Douglas and Sherian Nicole Swindell, Joshua Kane and Kristina Lea Jennette; sister to Peggy Bowen of Ayden and Tony Bowen, primarily of California; and a friend to all who loved God's beauty as she did...nature, poetry and good people.³

  Church by the Rev. Ricky
  Easter. Burial will follow
  in the New Bethel Baptist
  Church Cemetery at
  Epsom.
  He is survived by a
  son, Russell W. Boyd
  and wife, Cynthia, of
  Henderson; a stepson,
  A.D. Harris. Jr. and wife,
  Carol, of Boydton, Va;
  and four grandsons, Wesley
  Harris, Adam Harris,
  Jacob Harris and Matthew
  Short; and a special
  friend, Joyce Stegall.

  White Funeral Home. At
