• Obituary: On 17 December 1951 at Washington, Beaufort Co., NC, Washington Daily News: Last rites held for B.P. Skittletharpe, 66, died at his home 1102 Kertanche?? Street in Greenville at 2:00 Sunday morning after a weeks critical illness. A failing health caused his retirement from his shop since 1946. Funeral Services were conducted from the chapel of the S.G. Wilkerson and Sons Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 4:00 by Rev. Leon Russell, Pastor of the Jarvis Memorial Methodist Church. Assisted by Rev. H.G. Haney Pastor of the Eighth Street Christian Church. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Skittletharpe was born in Bath, N.C., the son the late John and Betty Martin Skittletharpe. He was married to Mary Rice of Bayview in 1910. He had operated a bicycle repair shop in Bath until 1928 when he went to Norfolk. He came to Greenville in 1920 and operated a bicycle repair shop here until his retirement in 1948. He was a member of the Bath Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs Olive Suggs of Bath and Mrs. David Dickson of Wilmington, two grandchildren, a brother, Dewey Skittletharpe of Norfolk and a sister, Mrs. Johnnie Woolard of Washington, N.C.⁵

Mr. Skittlethorpe was born in Beaufort County March 10, 1898, son of J.T. Skittlethorpe and the late Mary E. Martin Skilltethorpe. He was a former resident of Bath and had been living in Newport News Virginia for the past eighteen years where he was employed as clerk for the Rosenboum Hardware Co. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church at Bath. Surviving, in addition to his father, are two daughters; Mrs. Lou Harmon, Mrs. William T. Winberry, both of Newport News, Virginia; two sons, McDonald Skittlethorpe of the U.S. Army and Tayloe Skittlethorpe of Newport News, Va; One sister, Mrs. F.T. Woolard, and three Grandchildren..²
