  Mr. Falkner was retired after 22 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of West End Baptist Church.
  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steve Kirk. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
  Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Helen Perry Falkner; a daughter, Joann F. Pirtle, and husband Larry, of Covington, Georgia; a son, Julian Thomas Falkner Jr., and wife, Tammy, of Louisburg, N.C; a sister, Margaret F. Stokes, of Henderson; a brother, O. Jack Falkner, and wife Delores, of Raleigh, N.C; five grandchildren, Melissa K. Honts, and husband Dale, of Davenport, Iowa; Jeffrey Kearson and Jason Kearson, both of Durham, N.C., and Julian Thomas Falkner III and Stephen Ray Falkner, both of Louisburg, N.C; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Honts, Jessica Honts, Reagan Honts, and Erin Honts. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Falkner.
  The family will receive friends today, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 1870 Hicksboro Road, Henderson.
  Serving as active pallbearers will be Charlie Baskett, Paul Parrish, Ellis Weathers, James Clark, James Edwards, Lawrence Edwards, Jerry Moss, and Jerry Ayscue. Honorary pallbearers will be all former and present employees of the Henderson Post Office.
  Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, NC 27536.
  Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.³

  Nelson “Pete” Falkner, 84, of 7441 N.C. 39 South, Henderson N.C., died
  Sunday at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson. He was born
  in Vance County on April 21, 1924 and was the son of the late Horace E. and
  Lonie Nelson Falkner of Henderson. His brother, Horace E. Falkner, Jr.,
  preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Miriam Ayscue Falkner and three children, Nelson Falkner, Jr. and wife Sarah, Delores F. Schmidt and husband Adolph, and Melissa F. Worthington and husband Tom. Also surviving are six grandchildren, David Falkner, Michael Falkner, Sarah Schmidt and partner Mindi Torrey, Elizabeth Schmidt, Charles Worthington and Rebecca Worthington; sister Ernestine F. Wilson; brother Calvin L. Falkner and wife Margie; sister-in-law Janie A. Morgan and numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He was a member of Fuller Chapel United Church of Christ. Currently Pete was
  serving on the Vance County Board of Education and Kerr Lake State Recreation Board of Directors.
  He was an active member of the Epsom
  Lions Club and the John H. Mills Masonic Lodge #624 at Epsom. He was
  a Past District Governor of District 31-G, Lions Clubs International, past
  member of the Vance County Board of Commissioners for eight years,
  and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Morehead School
  for the Blind in Raleigh for 12 years.
  Pete was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by North Carolina
  Governor Mike Easley in 2003 for his commitment and dedication to
  the blind and visually impaired and his other community service. A memorial service wil be held at Liberty Christian Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Members of the Epsom Lions Club and the John H. Mills Masonic Lodge #624 will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be at Flowers Funeral Home in Henderson from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.³
