  She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Mills. Burial will follow in New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
  Surviving are her husband, Mack Eugene Barnes; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Eugene Barnes; and two brothers, Jesse James Faulkner and Clarence Edward Faulkner Jr.
  The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
  Active pallbearers will be Jerry Lassiter, Carl Smith, Wayne Heath, Randy Faucette, Joe Faucette, Mark Dailey and Richard Mills.¹

• Obituary: On 1 October 2006 at Henderson, Vance Co., NC, HENDERSON - Edna Faulkner Barnett, age 84, a resident of 221 Crestwood Road, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2006. Born on May 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James G. Faulkner and Addie Newman Faulkner.
  Mrs. Barnett was a graduate of Campbell College with a major in journalism; her first job was with the Army Signal Corps in Washington, DC. After World War II, she moved back to Henderson to work for The Henderson Daily Dispatch as a reporter. As a reporter, she wrote about everything from football to society. (She loved doing wedding write-ups!)
  After her marriage to Charles in 1949, they moved to Richmond, Va., where Charles became a research chemist with Experiment, Inc. Edna became a reporter for the Richmond News Leader Newspapers, again doing general reporting of news stories. From the News Leader, she moved over to the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper, where she became society editor and covered all the major conventions and meetings throughout the state of Virginia. While she was working at the newspapers, Charles returned to college at the Medical College of Virginia to study pharmacy. Following Charles' graduation from Medical College of Virginia, they moved to Portsmouth, Va., for two years, after which they returned to Henderson in 1956 and Edna went back to The Daily Dispatch with Henry A. Dennis as her boss and “best friend.” They worked together for several years until she decided to become a homemaker and raise two fine sons.
  Edna's life after the newspaper was filled with many rewarding memories including being a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Henderson where she was a member of the JOY class, WMU, and the Colonial Garden Club. She was also a Sunday School teacher.
  Edna enjoyed singing in her younger years and at an early age she was a member of the First Baptist Church Choir. Being a journalism major in college, gave her the experience of studying poets and their poetry, which she thoroughly enjoyed throughout her life. And yes! Butterflies were her favorite as were flowers. Throughout her home these two were always the theme.
  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at the First Baptist Church by Dr. Paul A. Baxley, Dr. Marion D. Lark and the Rev. B.J. Hutto.
  She is survived by her husband, Charles Mason Barnett, of the home; two sons, Marty Barnett and Neil Barnett, and his wife Staci, all of the Henderson; one sister, Jeanette F. Poythress, of Henderson; one granddaughter, Shanin Kathleen Barnett; and a grandson, Alexander Neil Barnett. She was preceded in death by two brothers Dwight Elmo Faulkner and James Randolph Faulkner.¹
