• Obituary: On 18 May 2005 at Wilson, NC, Cecil U. Faulkner HENDERSON — Cecil Underwood Faulkner, age 86, a resident of 71 Cross Creek Court, died Sunday afternoon in a local nursing home. A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late Howard Vernard Faulkner and Bessie Faulkner Faulkner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II, and was a retired Tobacco Inspector with the U. S. Department of Agriculture. He was a former co-owner of H&R Block in Henderson and Oxford and became an Enrolled Agent. He was a lifelong member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church where he was a member of the Ed Blue Sunday School Class, a Deacon Emeritus, a former Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and choir member. Mr. Faulkner was also a member of The Gideons. He was the Clerk of the Cullom Baptist Association where he was the organizer of the Cullom Baptist Association Youth Baseball League. Mr. Faulkner served on the General Board of The N.C. State Baptist Convention. He was a former member of the Henderson Lions Club where he served as President and Treasurer. He received many awards including the Distinguished Service Award, President's Appreciation Award, and was the Lion of the Year in 1992. He was a former member of the American Legion where he served as Chaplain and was the recipient of the Legionnaire of the Year. He was a former member of the Henderson-Vance Men's Garden Club, and became a Master Gardener. He was a former member of NARFE where he served as Chaplain. He received the Governor's Award for outstanding volunteer service in 1990. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Burgess. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Adell Blue Faulkner of the home; one daughter, Lynette F. Moody and husband, Larry, of Wilson; two sons, Daryl J. Faulkner and wife, Teri, of San Diego, Calif., and Barry U. Faulkner and wife, Dorothy, of Kittrell; one sister, Maria Faulkner of Henderson; one brother, Jerry Faulkner of Henderson; 12 granddaughters, Natalie F. Robertson, Heather K. Hepler, Melanie J. Faulkner, Wendy L. Williams, Jamie L. Williams, Stephanie B. Reynolds, Susan F. Adcock, Bettie F. Wiggins, Shanna L. Faulkner, B. Lynette Faulkner, Meredith P. Moody, and Caroline E. Moody; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Allison Faulkner and H. V. Faulkner Jr; and two sisters Evelyn F. Ayscue and Doris F. Ayscue. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the J. M. White Funeral Home, and immediately following the burial in the Fellowship Hall of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church with a memorial dinner. At other times they will be at the home. Serving as active pall bearers will be Bob Fuller, C.F. Ayscue, Robert "Bobby: Faulkner, Brandon Faulkner, Keith Faulkner, Steve Simmons, Dan Simmons, and Eddie Blue.
