  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II and was a member of Disabled American Veterans in Henderson.
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gail Bruno. Burial will follow in Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Epsom.
  He is survived by a sister, Kathleen F. Harris of Henderson; and a brother, Woodson E. Faulkner of Henderson.
  The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Glenn and Kathleen Harris at 231 Orville St.
  Serving as active pall bearers will be members of the Disabled American Veterans.

  Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at New Sandy Creek Baptist church for the late Early Howard Falkner, 57 year old South Henderson merchant, who died at 10:45 o'clock Sunday night at his home after an illness of nearly three months. He had been confined to his bed for eleven weeks, but had been in failing health for five years.
  Mr. Falkner was a native of Warren county, having been born December 3, 1878. Had he lived two days longer, he would have been 57 years old. He had lived here the past 29 years.
  Funeral services this afternoon were in charge of Rev. A.S. Hale, pastor of the First Baptist church of Henderson, in which the deceased held his membership 28 years. Assisting in the services were to be Rev. S.L. Morgan, former pastor of the First Baptist church now of Creedmoor, and Rev. L.B. Reavis, pastor of New Sandy Creek Baptist church. Internment was in the cemetery there.
  Mr. Falkner was a member of the local camp Patriotic Order Sons of America. He had been in the mercantile business here for 29 years.
  Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Pearl Falkner, and the following children: Mrs. Marvin G. Davis, Mrs. Thomas Green, Albert, Ralph and Miss Ann Falkner, all of Henderson: three brothers, H.R. Falkner and James G. Falkner, both of Henderson, and Green Falkner, of Vance county; and one sister, Mrs. Thomas West, of Franklin County.

  Mr. Faulkner, was a Louisburg native, retired as assistant director of purchasing with the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Board of Education. He was a Wake Forest graduate. He received his master's degree from Appalachian State University. He coached football and basketball in North Carolina and was the athletic director and basketball coach at Harding High School from 1944 to 1960. He was an Army veteran and served in World War II as a sergeant.
  At his church, he was a member of Stell Sunday school class where he served as class president. He was also the secretary treasurer of the church and a member of the Every Member Canvas Committee and the Ushering Committee.
  Survivors are his wife. Lena; brother, Bennett Faulkner of Lenoir; half- sisters, Mrs. Harriett Wolfe of River Hills, S.C., Mrs. Edith Lee of Clinton, S.C; nephews; nieces.⁴

• Obituary: On 1 October 2006 at Henderson, Vance Co., NC, HENDERSON - Edna Faulkner Barnett, age 84, a resident of 221 Crestwood Road, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2006. Born on May 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James G. Faulkner and Addie Newman Faulkner.
  Mrs. Barnett was a graduate of Campbell College with a major in journalism; her first job was with the Army Signal Corps in Washington, DC. After World War II, she moved back to Henderson to work for The Henderson Daily Dispatch as a reporter. As a reporter, she wrote about everything from football to society. (She loved doing wedding write-ups!)
  After her marriage to Charles in 1949, they moved to Richmond, Va., where Charles became a research chemist with Experiment, Inc. Edna became a reporter for the Richmond News Leader Newspapers, again doing general reporting of news stories. From the News Leader, she moved over to the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper, where she became society editor and covered all the major conventions and meetings throughout the state of Virginia. While she was working at the newspapers, Charles returned to college at the Medical College of Virginia to study pharmacy. Following Charles' graduation from Medical College of Virginia, they moved to Portsmouth, Va., for two years, after which they returned to Henderson in 1956 and Edna went back to The Daily Dispatch with Henry A. Dennis as her boss and “best friend.” They worked together for several years until she decided to become a homemaker and raise two fine sons.
  Edna's life after the newspaper was filled with many rewarding memories including being a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Henderson where she was a member of the JOY class, WMU, and the Colonial Garden Club. She was also a Sunday School teacher.
  Edna enjoyed singing in her younger years and at an early age she was a member of the First Baptist Church Choir. Being a journalism major in college, gave her the experience of studying poets and their poetry, which she thoroughly enjoyed throughout her life. And yes! Butterflies were her favorite as were flowers. Throughout her home these two were always the theme.
  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at the First Baptist Church by Dr. Paul A. Baxley, Dr. Marion D. Lark and the Rev. B.J. Hutto.
  She is survived by her husband, Charles Mason Barnett, of the home; two sons, Marty Barnett and Neil Barnett, and his wife Staci, all of the Henderson; one sister, Jeanette F. Poythress, of Henderson; one granddaughter, Shanin Kathleen Barnett; and a grandson, Alexander Neil Barnett. She was preceded in death by two brothers Dwight Elmo Faulkner and James Randolph Faulkner.¹
