Born in Vance County on May 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Omegia Faulkner and Annie Vaughan Faulkner, and was the widower of Imogene "Jean" Faulkner.
  He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and was a retired Inspector of the USDA where he worked for 54 Years. He was a member of Gillburg United Methodist Church and was a former President of the Kerr Lake Country Club.
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Gillburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gary Murphree and the Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
  He is survived by one brother, Clyde Faulkner, of Brasstown, N.C., a niece, Diane Stanton, of Raleigh, and her children, Leigh Anne Stanton of Kittrell and Wil Stanton of Raleigh; nephew, Charles L. Faulkner and wife, Beverly, and son, Jason Faulkner; several nieces and nephews, and his caregiver, Pam Watson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lindburg Faulkner and James V. Faulkner.
  The family received friends Monday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of James and Marilove Spencer at 156 Buffalo Mill Road, Kittrell.
  Serving as active pall bearers will be Joe Taylor, Jason Pernell, Herbert "Skip" Barts, Jim Faulkner, Daniel Spencer, Mike Bullard, Mike Dawson, Tom Whitt, and Will Whitt.
  Serving as honorary pall bearers will be the Kerr Lake Men's Club.
  Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, c/o Duke University Medical Center, Box 3069, Durham, NC 27710.

  He is survived by Mavis Faison Faulkner. They had three sons, Howard Vernon Faulkner III of Chapel Hill, Robert Faison Faulkner (Bobby), Linwood Curtis Faulkner, Sr; and one daughter, Barbara Ann F. Harris all of Henderson. They also have six grandchildren, Robet, Todd, Curt, Jennifer, Daniel Faulkner, and Jason Harris, and they also have four great grandchildren. Two brothers, Cecil and Jerry Faulkner; and a sister,
  
  Maria Faulkner all of Henderson survive him. He was preceded in death by one brother, Allison and two sisters, Evelyn and Doris Ayscue all of Henderson.
  
  A native of Henderson, he was born the son of Howard V. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Faulkner.
  
  He was born on this father's birthday, April 4, 1920, and named after him. When H.V.'s father died in 1958 from lung cancer, he and several of the children quit smoking.
  
  H.V. was an artilleryman in the 83rd Division, 3rd Army, commanded by George S. Patton.
  
  He landed at Normandy on June 12, 1944 and was awarded five battle stars. He has written five stories that were published in the Henderson Daily Dispatch and the Raleigh News & Observer. Cecil and his late brother Allison also served in World War II and later Jerry with the occupational army.
  
  H.V.'s son Linwood was born on June 12, which reminded him of that important event in his life. H.V.'s favorite was a quote from General Patton, "If it is my lot to die, let me do so with courage and honor in a manner which will bring the greatest harm to the enemy. And please, Oh Lord, protect and guide those I shall leave behind."
  
  He was a tobacco farmer for over 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing until he was no longer able. He even killed an 8-point deer this past December at the age of 83. He coached baseball, basketball and softball for many years with outstanding winning teams.
  
  After failing health, he moved in with his daughter Barbara Ann where she and her husband Jerry took care of his until his hospital care.
  
  Visitation services will be Saturday, April 17, at the J.M. White Funeral Home on Zeb Robinson Road in Henderson from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Other times the family will receive guests at the home of Robert Faison Faulkner (Bobby) at 3635 Southerland Mill Road.
  
  Funeral services will be at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Weldon's Mill Road, Henderson at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 18. Graveside services will be held at 3444 Southerland Mill Road (the Old Bethel Cemetery on the Faulkner farm) with military honors.
  
  Serving as active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Robert Faulkner, Todd Faulkner, Curt Faulkner, Daniel Faulkner, Jason Harris, and Todd Sutton.⁵

Faulkner, who died April 14, 2004. Survivors include a son, Terry Wayne Faulkner, of Kannapolis; a daughter, Denice F. Adkins, of Burlington; a granddaughter, Erica Faulkner, of Kannapolis; step-granddaughter, Cindy Julian, of Charlotte; a brother, Carl Faulkner, of Salisbury and; a sister, Esther Collins, of Johnson City, Tenn.³
