Mr. Faulkner was a remarkably kind, affectionate,
peaceable man. Was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, and ided enjoying the Christian's Hope. As a husband he was affectionate, as a parent exemplary, as a master humane, as a neighbor accommodating, as a citizen warm and attached to the Union on constitutional terms, as a Christian firm and constant in his attachment to the form of selfishness he was eminently distinguished for enlarged disinterested generosity. He was liberal without ostentation, pious withour Pharisaism, and humble without affection. In Thomas Faulkner all recognized a noble speciman fo our race.
Although the blood of the gallant Jackson coursed through his veins, yet in many particulars he was unlike the illustrious old hero. Instead of that stern, iron aspect, so visible in the Warrior and President; every lineament of his countenance beamed forth mildness, benevolence and conciliation. When it wa necessary no man could more calmly and firmly look danger in the face; yet he was a man of peace. He was willing to repel from his country an invading foe, but not to have a personal difficulty with a friend or neighbor if ti soulc be honorably avoided. Through the whold course of his life, perhaps no man had more friends and fewer adversaries. Where he was known, a man would label himself with infamy, to speak harmfully of Thomas Faulkner.
His widow is the daughter of that magnanimous, noble-hearted Mrs. Barton, who gave shelter to old Mrs. Jackson-nursed her in her last illness, and when dead buried her decently at her own expense, washed the apparel she left and delivered it to Andy without any compensation.2
